What we want is different from what we need.

The brain plays tricks on us.

It’s evolved to associate pain and pleasure to certain things.

It’s why public speaking can be so daunting and sugar can taste so good.

But just because we may want to avoid public speaking or we may want to eat 17 reese’s cups, doesn’t mean that’s what we actually need (debatable regarding reese’s cups).

Map out what your needs are that correspond to the person you’re growing into. Then map out the wants you have.

Take stock of where these two lists are aligned and where they’re not. Then, be intentional to consistently associate the habits and patterns you NEED with the person you’re trying to become. And then, create healthy parameters around the wants that don’t align.

Make those links clear in your brain so that it knows what the necessary path is.

Then go.
